The definitive BE S2ECURe book on terrorist act risk assessment and mitigation is now available!

"Terrorist Risk in Urban Outdoor Built Environment", is now published and available online at Springer in full open access!

This open-access book presents recent BE S2ECURe findings on analyzing, assessing, and managing terrorist risks in urban outdoor environments, particularly in open areas like streets, squares, and parks. It offers various analytical tools for defining risk scenarios, conducting assessments, designing mitigation strategies, and evaluating their effectiveness. The book combines traditional methods with simulation-based approaches that focus on user behavior, thus using the “behavioral design” approach proposed by the BE S2ECURe project. This approach allows for tailored risk management in specific urban contexts, addressing the limitations of existing European norms that often rely solely on intelligence activities for violence prevention. Additionally, it emphasizes how to improve the resilience of cultural and historic sites, proposing compatible mitigation solutions.

The work represents the main results of the multidisciplinary activity carried out in the context of the BE S2ECURe project, and its authors are prof. F. Fatiguso and dr. E. Cantatore from POLIBA, and prof. E. Quagliarini and dr. G. Bernardini from UNIVPM.
